In August of 2023, with the help of Harlan County Judge Executive Dan Mosely, and the Harlan County Conservation District, sediment removal operations began. Over 1,000 yards is estimated to have been removed, deepening the very back of the lake to almost original elevation. This was the worst area for the sediment buildup, and both creeks that feed the lake in the back are no longer impeded by sandbars. We plan to try to continue the removal of even more sediment in separate phases.
